How to Collect Wheaties Boxes

Wheaties, the self-proclaimed "Breakfast of Champions," has been a morning staple for decades. From Olympic medalists to high-profile NBA and NFL stars and teams, many professional sports figures consider it an honor to be named a Wheaties Champion and have their picture on the cereal box. Many fans collect Wheaties boxes.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the breakfast aisle at your local grocer or market for Wheaties boxes. You're looking for special editions that feature athletes or teams. Special editions typically celebrate Olympic achievements or the crowing of a Super Bowl champion.

    • 2

Buy at least two boxes (one is a "spare" should one become damaged). Take the boxes home and do not open them. Boxes must be fully intact, cereal and all, to become a collector's item. Keep the boxes away from heat, direct sunlight, dampness and hungry friends or family members with a taste for cereal. The high shelf in a closet is one storage possibility.

    • 3

Grow your collection by regularly shopping the cereal aisle at certain times of the year (the close of the World Series in October, for example). Buy the boxes, or shop online auction sites for rare items. You may choose to sell certain boxes after a period of time to help cover the expense of buying rare or discontinued boxes to add to your collection.
