Maltese Cross
The Maltese cross is a significant symbol for firefighters; it is the badge of a fireman that represents protection and honor. This would be a special image to display on a vanity license plate for a firefighter. A black background and red Maltese cross or vice versa would provide just enough contrast and interest to make is special.
Flames
Flames are at the center of a firefighter's experiences---they put the flames out. Find a license plate on a black background with flames coming up from the bottom in red, orange and yellow hues. In the center in white letters the words "Putting out the Flames."
Firefighter Scene
Let everyone know what your firefighter is all about. A vanity license plate depicting a firefighter standing with the fire hose fighting a structure fire would be a great addition to his vehicle. This scene should not be too busy, as to be obvious to those who view it. The scene would fit appropriately on an average size license plate.
Personalized
Give the vanity license plate a personal touch with a personalized plate. This license plate may include the name of the firefighter, the fire department name or the engine number to which the firefighter is assigned. Also include any image that is meaningful to the firefighter, such as the Maltese cross, ax and ladder or the image of a firefighter.
Restrictions
Many states require that the personalized license plate be the standard 6¼ by 12 ¼ inch in size. Check with your local fire department or union affiliation before using their name or logo. The Firefighters Union requires the use of your union number if you include their logo in the design of the vanity license plate. Also, the local fire department or city regulation may restrict use of their name or likeness.
