How to Display Autographed Jerseys

Sports memorabilia are among the most highly coveted items by collectors. This goes well beyond sports cards, signed balls or other more conventional collectibles. Signed jerseys are in high demand, and although they are fine additions to any fan's collection, they are not as easily displayed as other collectibles. Autographed jerseys take a little more work to properly display without damage.

Instructions

  1. How to Display Autographed Jerseys

    • 1

Purchase a display case that is large enough for your autographed jersey. Display cases should be treated wood on the back and sides, and they should connect to a glass front with hinges. These are fairly easy to make for experienced woodworkers, but buying a display case is simpler for most people.

    • 2

Look for a hanging dowel. It isn't necessary, but it will give the jersey more of a "lift" or fullness in display. The dowel is inserted through the sleeves and fixed with the hanger to remain hidden from sight.

    • 3

Hang the jersey with the autograph clearly in view. The display case should be kept in a place where there is no ultraviolet light, or UV light is at a minimum. UV light can damage jerseys over time, fading the signature and the jersey colors.

Consider additional lighting for your display case. Popular choices include special rope lighting or miniature spotlights that are not UV-based.
