How to Make a Soccer Display Case

A collectible soccer ball can be displayed, protected and preserved with a special case for it. If you are skilled at cutting hard plastic and don't want to spend money on an expensive commercial case, you can construct one yourself. This is not an easy task to take on, but it can add an extra level of pride by creating a display case for your soccer ball that was designed with your own personal touch.

Things You'll Need

  • Transparent plastic
  • Saw
  • Wood (optional)
  • Varnish (optional)
  • Epoxy glue
  • Tracing paper
  • Pencil

  • White glue (optional)

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the dimensions for your soccer ball case. A size five soccer ball, which is used in most regulation matches, has a diameter of around 7 inches. A case for such a ball needs to be at least 9 inches long, wide and high.

    • 2

Cut the pieces to make the cases sides out of solid, transparent plastic (no more than 1/8 of an inch thickness is needed). You need four pieces of the same shape and size to form the sides of the cube-shaped case. Hold off on making the top and bottom pieces for now.

    • 3

Glue all four pieces together with strong epoxy glue to form a box shape with an open top and bottom. The easiest method can be to glue two pieces together in an "L" shape, do the same for the other two, then glue the two "L" pieces together.

    • 4

Measure the length and width of the case's top/bottom from the outer edges. The measurements will be greater than those of the side pieces since the thickness of the plastic will be added to them.

    • 5

Cut out the top and bottom panels for the case using the new measurements. You can use the same plastic for both, but you can also use wood for the bottom piece. If you use wood, give it a coat of varnish.

    • 6

Glue the bottom piece to the rest of the frame first. Once the glue dries, place the soccer ball within it. If you want the ball permanently sealed within the case, glue the top piece on with the same epoxy. Use white glue instead of the epoxy if you don't.
