Cutting The Pieces for Your Display Unit
Start by measuring out all of the parts for your unit on the plywood. The shelves are based on a 6-inch depth. Measure out 7 rectangles on the plywood that are 2 feet 11 inches long and 6 inches wide. Five of these pieces serve as the inner shelves and two are the sides of your display unit. Cut these out with the saw.
Measure out the top and bottom of your display unit next. Draw two pieces on the plywood 3 feet long and 6 inches wide and cut them out.
If you want to put a back on your display unit, cut out a 3 feet by 3 feet square from the plywood.
Sand all rough edges on the pieces and apply wood stain or paint of your choice. Allow to dry.
Constructing Your Display Unit
Start by gathering the two pieces for the top and bottom of your unit and grab two shelf pieces. You are constructing a 3 feet wide by 3 feet tall square with these four pieces. Make sure the 2-foot-11-inch side pieces are screwed in between the top and bottom. Use three screws on each each end for all four ends.
Once you complete the outside of your unit, you now screw in the five shelves. Begin by measuring up 5.4 inches from the inner surface of the bottom and screw in a shelf directly above that line. Use two screws for each end and screw from the outside of the unit inwards.
Again measure up 5.4 inches from the top surface of the shelf just installed and put in the next one. Repeat this process for all shelves and you now have 6 equally-spaced shelves.
If you made a back piece for your unit, screw it on next.
Stand the display unit up and it is now ready to use.
