Things You'll Need

Join a political memorabilia collector's organization. American Political Items Collectors is one of the oldest organizations, founded in 1945. Other organizations include Political Collectors and the Association of Collecting Clubs. These groups provide numerous resources to collector members including shows, appraisal services and networking opportunities.
Attend political memorabilia shows. Several organizations sponsor shows throughout the U.S. where members, dealers and auctioneers exhibit political and presidential memorabilia and autographs.
Visit the "Recommended Links" area on Legacy Americana's website. The site provides links to auction services, collector organizations, political memorabilia dealers, preservation suppliers, presidential libraries and charities that accept donations of political collectibles to use in fundraisers.
Demand proof of authenticity. It can be difficult to discern if an article is authentic and even some of the savviest dealers can be fooled by good reproductions. Reputable sellers will guarantee the authenticity of the items they sell.
Inspect the item carefully before purchasing. Even authentic items may not be of value if they're in poor condition. Don't purchase an item sight unseen unless you have a money-back guarantee if you're not satisfied.
Peruse websites of political collectible dealers and auctioneers to see what types of items are available. There are thousands of sites with such collectibles offered for sale on the Internet. Subscribe to online auctions with items of interest.
Attend antique shows, flea markets and estate sales as well as gun, coin and stamp shows. Sometimes great political collectibles can be found in unexpected locations.
Advertise in local newspapers and collector trade publications if you're searching for a particular item.
