Things You'll Need
Instructions
Avoid touching the bat. It seems to be relatively obvious that the more you handle something, the more likely it is to deteriorate. This holds true for any sports memorabilia and autographed baseball bats are no exception. Avoid unnecessary handling of the bat at all costs.
Spray the autograph lightly with aeresol hairspray. This will act as a sealant without damaging the autograph. Test the hairspray on similar ink before using on your bat.
Keep away from humidity. Do this to prevent moisture from affecting the ink from your autograph. Too much moisture is likely to distort the quality of your autograph and even affect the integrity of the wood.
Avoid excessive sunlight. Too much exposure to sunlight can cause the autograph’s ink to fade. Ultraviolet rays tend to have that effect. For this reason you should also avoid too much exposure to fluorescent lighting. Keep the bat someplace where it receives only indirect sunlight.
Show it off but safely. Let’s face it, an autographed bat was meant to be admired, but as any collector would tell you, only at a distance. This works well in theory but try explaining the concept to a child. The point is accidents happen, so how can I have my autographed bat on display and still keep it safe from any accidental circumstances? Well, the answer is a baseball bat display case. These cases are usually made from wood and have clear acrylic windows that keep out around 98% of all ultraviolet rays. This means that not only are you able to show off your prized memorabilia, but you’ll do so without having to worry about potential spills or smudges that may occur otherwise.
