Things You'll Need
Instructions
Measure the size of the sports display cabinet you need. Take into account not only the items you want to show off, but also the wall where you want to hang the cabinet. If you find that the size is too large for the selected wall, divide your collection into two or more cabinets that may be hung at different locations in your home.
Purchase a display cabinet do-it-yourself kit that contains the hardware and the blueprints needed to put together the cabinets.
Assemble the sports display cabinet following the instructions outlined on the blueprint of the do-it-yourself kit. Do not put together the doors yet!
Measure the glass of the doors to the sports display cabinet and purchase UV-filtered glass to replace the regular windowpane glass usually included in the kit. Failure to do so will lead to rapid discoloration of paper-based display items while textiles will fade in areas exposed to sunlight.
Line the interior of the sports display cabinets with acid-free blotter paper in a color that complements the display items. This prevents any acids contained in the wood of the cabinets to transfer onto the memorabilia you wish to exhibit.
Order small plaques to custom engrave with the details of the displayed items in your sports display cabinets. Keep it brief but offer enough detail to permit anyone admiring your collection to understand what makes the items special.
Hang the sports display cabinet with screws to ensure that it is firmly anchored into the wall. If you live in an area that is prone to earthquakes, include a locking mechanism on the cabinets to keep the items inside.
