How to Customize Turtle Beanie Babies

Beanie Babies are collectible stuffed animals that first came out in the early 1990s. Six turtle Beanie Babies were made, namely "Peekaboo," "Speedster," "Speedy," "Sunrise," "Tortuga" and "Zoom." Although they all were limited-series toys, customizing them makes them one-of-a-kind. There are many different ways to personalize these dolls to make them special keepsakes or gifts to be cherished.

Things You'll Need

Knitting yarn and needles
Embroidery thread and needle
Beanie Baby-sized shirt
Fabric paint or iron-on transfer
Beads or mini-flowers
Beanie Baby or small doll Accessories

Instructions

  Knit your Turtle Beanie Baby a simple scarf to keep him warm. If you're a more advanced knitter, get a knitting pattern and make him some other clothes.

  Embroider someone's initials on his wide and flat front feet.

  Make him a personalized T-shirt. Get a small, plain-colored shirt to fabric paint a message on or to iron-on a homemade transfer. Write a message on the back of the shirt, which will be on his shell will and will be visible to all; on the front of the shirt write a surprise message.

  Make your turtle a necklace, or if he's feeling tropical, a lei. Use thread and string to customize your necklace or mini fabric flowers for a lei. Make yourself a matching one.

  Buy your turtle some accessories like a hat or a back pack. If you can't find specific Beanie Baby accessories, some small doll accessories, like Barbie, will do.
