How to Remove Stains From Dolls

Dolls are meant to be played with, but all that playing can leave some stains and marks on your doll. Most collectible dolls are made with vinyl, porcelain or plastic. The key to cleaning these dolls is to use the lowest level of chemicals that is needed to get the job done. You also need to take care not to wash away the painted details on the doll. If your doll came with instructions on how to clean it, always follow those instructions.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the clothes from the doll. Inspect it for any grime, dirt or marks.

    • 2

Wipe the doll with a pre-moistened baby wipe. Rub gently to remove tough stains.

    • 3

Moisten the baby wash cloth with warm water and a mild dish soap. Attempt to remove the stains or marks. Use a toothbrush to dig dirt out of crevices such as eyes or ears. If stains remain, proceed through the remaining steps to attempt to remove them.

    • 4

Mix baking soda and water to form a paste. Rub it gently onto stains. Use the tooth brush on tough stains but rub only as hard as you need to remove the stain.

    • 5

Use a stain removing pad and water to try to get the marks and stains off the doll.

    • 6

Use a product designed specifically for cleaning dolls such as Formula 9-1-1 from Twin Pines or Doll and Wig Cleaner from A Dolly's World. See the Resources section for links. Follow the instructions on the cleaner's label to attempt to remove the stains.
