How to Repaint Johnny West Figures

Collectible Johnny West action figures are still enjoyed decades after they were created. Due to frequent handling and the general age of these figures, it's likely that the paint has worn off of some areas of the body or head. It's easy to repaint them with common acrylic craft paints. Be aware that altering any collectible action figures could affect its value.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean your Johnny West figure thoroughly with an abrasive cleaner (the type used in sinks and tubs). Rinse and dry it completely when finished.

    • 2

Squeeze a little paint into your paint-mixing tray, adding to it whichever colors are needed to make your own custom color. Mix them together with a paintbrush. Test the color on a piece of scrap paper, noting that the color may change slightly when dry.

    • 3

Apply your custom-paint blend to your action figure with a paint brush. Use larger brushes for larger areas. Apply the paint with gentle, light strokes, being careful to apply the paint evenly. If you get paint on the wrong area, it will easily wipe away with a damp paper towel. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly before moving on to adjacent areas that require different colors. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each area that needs paint. Allow all paint to dry completely (at least an hour).

    • 4

Rinse the brushes thoroughly under running water. Pat them dry on a paper towel.

    • 5

Apply the sealer to all painted areas of the action figure. Set the figure to dry, being sure the wet sealer is not touching anything. Allow the figure to dry completely.

    • 6

Rinse off all brushes before the sealer hardens on them. Dry the brushes with a paper towel.
