How to Fix Fuzzy Doll Hair

Whether you are a doll collector who just wants to dress and display your dolls, or a parent with a child who loves dolls, you will often find yourself caring for and styling doll hair. If you come across an old doll that you like, but the doll's hair is fuzzy or damaged, you can try to fix the hair yourself. This process will save you money so that you won't have to go out and buy the doll a new wig.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash the doll's hair to get rid of any grime. Fill a bowl in your sink with cool water (not warm or hot) and mix in a cap full of baby shampoo, a mild dish washing detergent or synthetic wig shampoo. Dip the doll's hair in the water and gently work the soapy water through her hair. Let her hair soak for 15 minutes.

    • 2

Rinse the doll's hair thoroughly with cold water and gently squeeze out the excess water. Dump the bowl of soapy water down the drain.

    • 3

Fill a casserole dish (or a smaller bowl or cup, depending on the size of your doll) with an inch of non-concentrated fabric softener. Lay the doll down with her hair in the fabric softener. Make sure only her hair is submerged in the fabric softener and let it soak for 2 or 3 hours.

    • 4

Remove the doll's hair from the fabric softener and rinse it completely out of her hair. Blot hair with a towel to get rid of the excess water. Use a wide-tooth comb and start at the ends to loosen up the tangles and fuzziness. Keep working at it and spray some leave-in conditioner (or watered-down conditioner) on the hair as you work.

    • 5

Brush with a narrow tooth comb after you've gotten the knots out. Pull the end of a stocking over her head and let her hair air dry. Apply low heat to her hair with a hair dryer if you don't want to wait. Gently remove the stocking when all of the moisture is gone, and your doll's hair should be smooth, shiny and ready to style.
