A computer will help you locate the cars more quickly, but part of collecting is meeting other collectors. Other collectors can provide tips that will guide you in the right direction. They can also offer trades to help you get that Mach 5 toy that you just cannot find.

  Search retail stores such as Wal-Mart and Target. Check their toy departments and clearance sections for "Speed Racer" toys. Be sure to check smaller stores like Dollar General, Family Dollar and other small chains, as they carry "Speed Racer" toys as well. The advantage of checking smaller stores is that they have less traffic than the big chains, so you may find an obscure item that has been overlooked.

  Check specialty stores like Toys "R" Us and collectible shops. Their selections are vast and deeper than any retail store. Scour the toy car section and their clearance aisles for the toys.

  Go to flea markets and yard sales. Collectible dealers will sometimes set up at flea markets to sell extra sets. The prices might be a little higher here, but the condition of the toys is usually superb.

  Search eBay and Craigslist for the toys. If there is a certain "Speed Racer" toy you are looking for, such as the 1/16th scale Mach 6, search for that item specifically. Prices can vary and so can condition of the products.
