How to Restring an All Vinyl Gotz Doll
Assess the condition of the doll. Are all the limbs loose or do you just need to restring the arms? If the legs need to be restrung, you will need to restring the arms as well. The head on a Gotz Doll is not strung, so you are only concerned with the arms and legs.
Pull each arm gently away from the body and cut the stringing cord. Repeat for both legs, if you are restringing the entire doll. Use hemostats to remove all of the old cord from the doll.
Remove the cups that are used to assemble your Gotz Doll from each limb. Use a hair dryer to heat the vinyl if necessary and pull on the cups with needle-nose pliers to remove them from each arm and leg.
Tie a 12-inch length of doll stringing elastic snugly into each of the cups. Heat the vinyl until it is malleable and force it back into each of the doll's arms and legs. You can also opt to use doll-joint hooks or galvanized-wing nuts from the hardware store in place of the cups that were in your all-vinyl Gotz Doll.
Place a wooden bead into the doll's body cavity. This will help you to align the limbs properly while restringing a Gotz all-vinyl doll. Thread each of the leg-doll stringing cords through the hole in the bead, leaving them loose and slack. Once the leg cords are strung, tie the right arm cord to the left leg, and the left arm to the right leg. Tie the strings quite snugly.
