DIY Box for Storing Comic Books

Original comic book issues significantly appreciate in value over time, particularly when kept in mint condition. Because most standard serialized issues measure 6.625 by 10.25 inches and contain fewer than 50 pages, they easily get lost and damaged when stored on a bookshelf. For this reason, serious comic fans and collectors invest in white cardboard longboxes designed specifically to organize and protect standard sized comic books. Instead of purchasing a new comic box, you can alter a box to store your personal collection.

Things You'll Need

  • Any lidded box at least 6 3/4 inches wide and 10 1/2 inches tall

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the height and length of the box and cut a piece of cardboard to fit those dimensions, using a utility knife.

    • 2

Wedge the piece of cardboard into the larger box to divide it into two sections. One of these sections must be at least 6 3/4 inches wide to accommodate comic books. If the box is large enough, make a second cardboard partition to split the box into three sections.

    • 3

Secure the cardboard partitions to the larger box using tacks, hot glue or masking tape. Do not use any other kind of tape, as it may peel off and damage the comics.

    • 4

Store comics upright in the box and cover the box with its lid.
