Look for a set of picture frames at your local frame store. Since 1975, US comic books have had a standard size of 6 5/8 inches by 10 1/4 inches. A standard 8-inch by 11-inch picture frame should accommodate most comics. Frames with simple, thin, black borders are most flattering since they do not distract from the comic book being displayed inside the frame. Frames with decorative borders can draw attention away from the comic.
Decide whether you want to use glass or acrylic in your frames. Glass is usually heavy-duty, professional and long-lasting. It also tends to be heavier more fragile. Acrylic is less prone to shattering but may not last as long. It is more easily scratched than glass and is usually more expensive.
Consider having custom mats made for your display frames. Most frame shops offer mats and mat-cutting services that can make your comics look nice. Choose one mat color for all of your frames, or custom colors that complement each comic cover.
Display your framed comics on the wall, or suspend them from cords attached to the ceiling. If you are making a 3-D display for the front window of a comic store, hang the frames at different lengths, featuring some frames in the foreground and others in the background. This arrangement, which mixes nicely framed comics in a scattered 3-D matrix, is an eye-catching way to draw in new customers.
