How to Tell a Comic Book's Issue Number

Comic books are affordable collectibles and entertaining diversions. Movies have turned to Spider-Man, Batman and Thor as inspiration. If you're starting a comic collection, you have several ways to find a comic book's issue number.

Instructions

    • 1

Look at the publisher's logo on the cover. Marvel and DC print many well-known comic books, but there are other publishers. Near the company's logo, you may see an issue number.

    • 2

Check for a block of small text at the bottom of the title page or the last page of the comic book. This is a legal and mailing notice required for all periodicals. It will list the issue number, as well as the publisher's name and contact information.

    • 3

Check a price book such as the Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide, which is published annually. Overstreet will tell you if comic book publishers have changed their titles or numbering. Sometimes, a long-running comic will start over with an all-new "first issue" to help boost sales.
