Things You'll Need
Instructions
Decide which comics you're looking for. Many collectors theme their collections, either looking for the work of a particular writer or artist or accumulating comics that feature a particular character or theme. Having a goal in advance will help keep you focused.
Work out a budget. A comic price guide will give you a rough estimate of how much you can expect to pay, although the figure only will be approximate.
Locate a retailer. If you have a local comics shop, this is a good place to begin. You also can use online retailers or auction sites such as eBay.
Verify the condition of the comic you're buying. Comics are graded on a scale of condition, ranging from Poor to Mint. Printed on cheap, acidic paper and often stored carelessly, Silver Age comics are vulnerable. Some retailers use professional grading services to register the condition of their comics.
Purchase your comic. If ordering by mail, make sure to ask about shipping methods to protect the comic during delivery.
