How to Watch CBR Files

CBR, or comic book reader, are archive files or sequential image files that are optimized for reading digitized comic books on computers. Generally, these are comic books that have been scanned page-by-page. CBRs are not a distinct file format, they are .rar archive files of compressed images. In this case, they are comic book pages with a different name extension.

Instructions

    • 1

Download and install a CBR viewer for your operating system. While there are probably programs that ship with most OS that can unpack a CBR, as they would a RAR archive, these will not be optimized for viewing comic book pages in a sequential reading order. A free program for windows is CDisplay. A simple program for Linux is cbrpager and Mac OS users can try FFView.

Bring up the CBR viewer, and open a CBR file. Right-click on the image (control-click in Mac OS), which should allow you to select size, resolution and image formatting preferences.

    • 3

Watch CBRs without moving through the images manually. Most CBR viewers have an easily accessible slide-show feature, which can be started again by right-clicking (or control-clicking) and selecting viewing preferences, and then selecting "slide-show."
