How to Use Comic Book Backer Board

Comic fans and collectors protect their investments by placing individual books into protecting plastic sleeves that hold the issue in place. Many times, in order to keep the comic books flat and in pristine condition, flat slats of cardstock are inserted into the bags to keep the books rigid. Known as backing boards, the cardstock slats allow the books to lay flat in the bags, especially when stored together with other bagged books.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay an individual comic book flat. Lay a clear plastic comic book bag in front of the issue with the long plastic flap face up. Pick up the book at the top, between your thumb and forefinger, and carefully slide the issue into the bag.

Flip the bagged book over so the cover is facedown. Slide a backing board into the bag, over the top of the back cover, and push the board all the way to the end of the bag. Tuck the flap into the bag, between the backing board and the bag.

Push the flap all the way into the bag, then hold the book vertical and press down on the top of the book to ensure a tight fit. Place a piece of clear adhesive tape over the opening in the bag to secure the flap in place, then place the book vertically into a cardboard storage box.
