Finding the Price of a Comic Book
Determine the grade of your comics. The grade is another word for the psychical condition of the comic. The grade of a comic can range from "mint" to "poor." A mint grade comic is something that is in almost new condition. There are no marks on the covers or fading to the pages. A comic can be given a poor grade if it has noticeable rips or creases in the cover or if the pages show wear and fading. Look at the front and back cover of your comic. Look for any creases, rips and any other damage. The amount of damage to the cover can effect the end price of your comic. Also look at the pages. Pages that have been torn or are faded can lower the value of a comic.
Look for the age of the comic. The age of a comic is determined by the year in which it was published. Look for a stamp sized white square at the top right hand corner of the front cover. This stamp will contain publishing information about the comic. It will include the year it was published, the series number and the company who published it. When you have found the date it was published you can assign the comic an age. Comic age ranges from "platinum" to "modern." With "platinum" comics being the oldest and "modern" comics being published more recently.
Get a pricing guide. A pricing guide is a publication that lists the price of comic books based on their age and grade. The two most popular pricing guides are from "Wizard Magazine" and The "Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide." Both publications are published yearly and can be found at most book and comic book stores. You may also be able to access them online. Price guides are in alphabetical order by title. Go to the section where your comic is listed. Underneath your title you will find the price of the comic separated by publishing dates. The prices generally start with "mint" and work their way down through the lower grades.
