Marvel's iconic heroes include Spider-Man, Captain America and Wolverine. DC's top heroes include Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. According to Itspopular.com, Superman is the most iconic superhero in the world.
History
DC Comics got its start in 1934, and the first superhero comic, featuring Superman, appeared in 1938. Marvel comics started in 1939 with the "Human Torch" hero. As of 2009, both companies still publish hundreds of comic books and have merchandise, movie deals and animated television series.
Villains
Marvel features dangerous villains like Magneto, Green Goblin and Kingpin. DC Comics features villains like the Joker, Penguin, Catwoman and Lex Luthor. The King Pin appears in multiple Marvel comics, such as Daredevil and Spider-Man and is one of the most ruthless in the comic book world.
Groups
Both DC and Marvel feature groups of heroes, but Marvel has many more. The Fantastic Four is a group of astronauts that were mutated and formed powers. The X-Men are a group of mutants that formed together to battle other mutants and protect their cause. DC features the Justice League, a collection of its best heroes, such as Batman, Superman and the Green Lantern.
Movies
DC movies mostly consist of Batman entries like "Batman Returns," "Batman Begins," and "The Dark Knight." Marvel has had far more movies including the "Spider-Man" trilogy, "X-Men" trilogy, and "Daredevil." According to IMDB.com, "The Dark Knight" is one of the top grossing movies of all time.
