Things You'll Need
Instructions
Familiarize yourself with comics in general. Read comic price guides to get an idea about comic values. Consult Wizard magazine, a monthly publication that features a constantly updated price guide, great articles on all aspects of the comic book industry, tips about collecting comic books and comic industry news. You can also find price guides and other comic-related information online.
Collect Number One issues of as many comic books as you can. Not every Number One goes up in value, but a majority of them become collectible over time. Many Number One issues increase dramatically in value right away due to quick sell-outs of anticipated collector's items. This is where reading Wizard can help you keep up on comic trends and anticipate hot sellers.
Look for issues of comics that come with special covers, alternative covers and unique gimmicks, as these comics often go up in value as well. Buy a copy for your collection and several to sell later. Buy as many of the alternative covers as you can.
Watch for boxes of old comics at flea markets and garage sales. Buy huge lots of comics whenever you can. You never know when you'll find a treasure among the lot--and you'll end up with plenty of neat comics too.
Take care of your comics. Keep them sealed in plastic bags. Comics fetch higher prices when they are in mint condition. You can buy supplies for storing comic books at your local comic book outlet.
Attend comic book conventions. You can buy, sell and trade at these conventions.
