Instructions
Decide what comic books you want to collect. Maybe you'd like to gather those that became hit movies (like Spiderman or Xmen) or showcase a particular superhero that you like. You can also start a collection based on a specific artist, writer or comic book publisher (like Stan Lee).
Browse and shop for issues at local comic book shops, bookstores and on comic-related websites. Ask employees for recommendations on different types (if you're also interested in collecting anime or graphic novels, for example) and which comics will appreciate if you want your collection to increase in value. (See Resources)
Attend comic book conventions to shop from a variety of merchants and discover other comic-related toys, magazines, videos and memorabilia. Some may even feature discussions or autograph sessions with your favorite writers and artists. (See Resources)
Round out your collection by buying back issues on websites or through online auctions. When buying an expensive, autographed or limited edition comic book online, study the seller's feedback for similar items, ask for proof of authenticity and consider using a payment service that features a buyer protection program.
Find suitable storage to protect your investment. Archival safe backing boards, protective sleeves, sturdy boxes, binders or drawer units can help protect your comics from dust, wrinkles and deterioration. Store them in a cool, dry spot that's out of any direct sunlight. (See Resources)
