Special Properties of Azurite

The name Azurite comes from the Arabic word meaning "blue." Azurite, also known as the Stone of Heaven, is a deep blue form of oxidized copper. It is a lower-cost alternative to Lapis Lazuli and can sometimes be interchanged, so be sure you know you are buying the right stone when shopping. Azurite is typically deep blue with waves of light blue and bright green.
  1. Metaphysical Properties

    • Azurite is meant to promote the pursuit of spirit, a gateway to the heavens and other realms. Ancient Egyptians as well as Native Americans believed in Azurite's ability to improve communication with the spirit world. The stone is thought to help tap into the knowledge of the universe. People often hold Azurite during meditation sessions to help channel its metaphysical properties. Azurite is also thought to improve verbal communication, in expressing to others as well as helping you control mental and emotional responses to stress.

    Bodily Properties

    • As well as healing the mind and spirit, Azurite is thought to promote healing in the body. In addition to calming anxiety and anger, Azurite is thought to promote detoxification through liver stimulation. It stimulates nerve and brain activity and encourages growth through stimulation of the thyroid gland. Azurite can be used in conjunction with copper which relieves sea sickness and nausea.

    Azurite's Physical Properties

    • Azurite is a special form of stone. In its rough form, Azurite has the look of a sponge-like substance and, when split open, the crystals inside can be seen. Copper ores must oxidize to produce Azurite and its deep blue color. Then, over time, the oxidized rock absorbs water and produces Malachite on top of and inside the Azurite. The Malachite looks like bright green flashes of color. Azurite is found in copper mining areas such as Australia, Chile, Africa and China.
