How to Muffle or Silence My Barska Biometric Safe

The Barska Biometric Safe is designed for security and ease-of-access. Because your fingerprint is the key to unlocking the safe, you are the only one who can access what̵7;s inside. The safe can be used to store firearms, coins, cash, jewelry and important documents. One downside to the safe is that it beeps loudly when opened. If there is a burglar in your home, opening the safe to retrieve your gun may give you away. Disabling the beep will help ensure your anonymity in such situations.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the cover on the inside of the door. Do this by taking out the two screws, located on the left side of the door, using a Phillips head screwdriver

    • 2

Detach the lock assembly, just behind the cover you removed in Step 1. The four nuts holding the assembly in place are located one in each corner of the lock assembly. Use the wrench to remove them. Once removed, pull the lock assembly away from the back of the fingerprint assembly.

    • 3

Take out the four screws holding the back of the fingerprint assembly to the front of the safe. The screws are grouped close together on the fingerprint assembly. Once completed, the front portion of the fingerprint assembly will fall away from the safe.

    • 4

Remove the front cover of the fingerprint assembly by detaching the four screws holding it in place and exposing the circuit board.

    • 5

Find the speaker compartment for the safe. It is located just below the center of the circuit board. This black, cylindrical piece is about the same width as an AA battery.

    • 6

Turn on your soldering iron and flip the circuit board over. Place the iron over the two soldered areas that are holding the speaker to the circuit board. Pull on the speaker while you heat up the two points. The speaker should fall away.

    • 7

Reassemble the front and back portions of the fingerprint assembly and then reattach the four bolts holding the lock assembly in place. Return the two screws to their place on the back of the door, thus reassembling the door cover.

    • 8

Open the safe to test that the beep has now been silenced.
