How to Make an AR15 Delta Ring Tool

The AR15 rifle features removable hand guards that surround the barrel. The hand guards are kept in place with a spring-loaded ring generally referred to as the delta compression ring. The delta compression ring is located at the end of the hand guards, closest to the magazine well. By pressing down on the ring, the hand guards can be easily removed. Making a tool to act as a lever to press down on the ring can be quickly produced with just a few simple tools.

Things You'll Need

  • Blowtorch
  • 20-inch metal rod inch approximately 1/8 inch in diameter.
  • Pliers
  • Safety gloves and glasses

Instructions

  1. Creating the Tool

    • 1

Put on your safety gloves and glasses and mark the center of your metal rod.

    • 2

Heat that spot of the rod with your blowtorch until the metal is red; this makes the metal more pliable and easier to shape.

    • 3

Use your pliers to bend the rod in half, so that the angle between each half is approximately 30 degrees.

    • 4

Heat each half of the rod approximately 1 inch from the bend. Bend the end underneath the rods so that it appears like a hook. Allow the rod to fully cool.

    • 5

Wrap the hook in electrical tape. Also wrap the rods where they will be making contact with the delta ring. The purpose of the tape is to act as a buffer to protect the finish of your AR15.

    Using the Tool

    • 6

Remove the magazine and check to make sure that your AR 15 is unloaded.

    • 7

Place the tool over the sides of the ring from the bottom of the weapon. Place the hook onto the front side of the magazine well.

    • 8

Squeeze the rods together so that they secure the sides of the ring and press toward the rear of the weapon. As the tool moves the ring back, remove the hand guards.
