How to Customize the Norinco SKS

Norinco SKS rifles are simple semiautomatics that were manufactured in China. The SKS is chambered for 7.62x39mm ammunition, features a conventional wooden stock and an internal magazine with a maximum capacity of 10 rounds. There are numerous aftermarket parts available for the SKS rifle, allowing you to customize your rifle into a modern high-tech battle rifle. Detachable high-capacity magazines are available to replace the traditional magazine (checking your local laws concerning magazine restrictions is strongly advised). Before customizing your SKS rifle, check to make sure the weapon is unloaded.

Instructions

  1. Stock and Magazine Replacement

    • 1

Place the safety, located behind the trigger, in the on position. Press the trigger group release button, located behind the trigger guard, and remove the trigger group.

    • 2

Simultaneously pull the bolt and magazine rearward. The magazine will pivot forward and out of the stock.

    • 3

Separate the receiver and barrel from the original stock. Rotate the small lever, located on the right side of the rear sight, to the lowest position and separate the gas tube.

    • 4

Remove the original hand guard from the gas tube assembly and replace it with your new hand guard. Use the original hand guard bracket for the replacement. Return the gas tube assembly into position and return the small lever to its original position.

    • 5

Install the receiver and barrel into your new stock. Set the trigger group in place and seat it into position by lightly tapping the bottom. You will hear the trigger group click into place.

    • 6

Place the front end of your detachable magazine in the front of the stock and pivot the magazine into place. The detachable magazine is designed to mimic the original internal magazine. The magazine can be quickly released by pressing the magazine release located just behind the magazine (this feature was integrated into the rifle not to replace magazines but to make the rifles easier to clean).

    Receiver Cover Replacement

    • 7

Rotate the retaining pin on the receiver cover, located at the rear of the receiver, to the up position. Remove the receiver cover by pulling it rearward.

    • 8

Place the new receiver cover, equipped with the tactical rail mount, on the rifle and return the retaining pin to its original position.

    • 9

Attach your scope, equipped with tactical scope rings, to the rail mount.
