How to Use a Leupold Custom Reticle

Custom made scopes designed for the ballistics of a specific bullet are available from the custom shop of Leupold Optics. These scopes feature easy-to-use reticles that allow you to quickly adjust for varying ranges. The intersection of the windage and elevation reticles are preset for a range of 200 yards. Above the intersection along the elevation reticle is a ranging dot set for 100 yards, below the intersection are three additional ranging dots that are set for ranges of 300, 400 and 500 yards.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare a target at a range of 200 yards. If you are unsure of the range, using a laser rangefinder is recommended. Align the intersection of the reticles directly onto your point of aim, with your customized reticle. This should be the exact location of your bullet's impact.

    • 2

Choose a closer target of 100 yards. Center the ranging dot above the windage reticle on your desired point of aim.

    • 3

Extend the range to a target at a distance of 300 yards. Center the first ranging dot below the windage reticle onto your point of aim.

    • 4

Increase the range to 400 yards and use the second ranging dot as your point of aim.

    • 5

Pick a target at 500 yards and center the bottom ranging dot on your point of aim.
