Types of Crossbows

For those who are interested in archery, having the proper crossbow is extremely important. They vary according to size, acceleration system and degree of automation. When shopping for a cross bow, one must be aware of each classification as well as their functions. Each machine is designed for a specific use. If you are aware of their capabilities and functions, your choice will be made easier.
  1. Compound Crossbow

    • The compound crossbow is characterized by its stiff limbs. It requires a large amount of pressure from its users due to its design. The compound crossbow is attached to pulleys which are connected by cables. When the user prepares to take a shot, the string draws back, the pulleys begin to turn and the cables begin to move. The limbs then bend and store energy for the shot. The compound crossbow is more energy efficient than any other type of crossbow.

    Repeating Crossbows

    • The repeating crossbow only requires that you make a single movement in order to complete a shot. Bow stringing, projectile launching, and shooting can all be done in one swift motion. This machine is operated by moving a lever forward and backward. The repeated crossbow gives the user the advantage of shooting at a faster rate.

    Recurve Crossbow

    • The recurve crossbow consists of a stock, lath and a metal arm which bends and retracts in order to launch the bolts. This machine has a longer draw length than most crossbows, which provides reduced hand shock and better acceleration. They are also noisy and require the use of a bowstring silencer. The recurve crossbow is light weight, which makes long distance carrying and quick aim easier.

    Rifle Crossbows

    • Rifle crossbows are one of the more advanced models. They come with adjustable sights, foot pulls, and heavy-duty fiber construction. This machine requires an exceptional amount of strength to launch a shot and cock the bow effectively. It is capable of hitting a target as far as 250 feet away. Rifle crossbows are designed to provide better aim.

    Pistol Crossbows

    • Pistol crossbows are compact in size. They offer both self cocking mechanisms as well as foot stirrups. Though this machine is light weight and easy to carry, the bolts fired from it travel at a low velocity. They are also easy to aim, but are semi accurate. Pistol crossbows are designed for maximum mobility.

    Bullet Crossbows

    • The bullet crossbow shoots projectiles which are made of clay, lead, or stone. It is operated through its cocking lever and release mechanism. This machine has two variants, one is equipped with a double string which has a pocket for the projectile. The other contains a barrel that has a slot for the string. Bullet crossbows make it easier for the user to utilize a more powerful prod.
