How to Take Off the Caps For Elevation on a 17HMR Tactical Scope

The 17HMR is a .17 caliber, high-velocity bullet that is extremely accurate. A tactical scope designed for the ballistics of this particular bullet -- such as the Sweet 17 scope from BSA optics -- adds to the accuracy of a 17HMR rifle. Many scope manufacturers install caps over the windage and elevation dials to protect the dials and secure the setting.

Instructions

    • 1

Check that your rifle is unloaded.

    • 2

Locate the cap screwed onto the elevation-adjustment dial centrally located on top of the scope body. The windage-adjustment dial is located on the right-hand side of the scope, adjacent to the elevation dial. The procedure for removing the windage cap is identical to removing the elevation cap.

    • 3

Use your fingers to unscrew the cap from the elevation-adjustment dial. Remove the cap.
