How to Make M4 Feed Ramps

M4 rifles are military variations of the civilian AR-15 rifles. All of these rifles have grooves called feed ramps cut into the barrel extension that assist in loading bullets into the chamber. With the development of the M4, the feed ramps where improved by widening the bottoms of the grooves and slightly deepening them. The feed ramps on AR-15 rifles are rounded at the bottom. You can modify the feed ramps of your AR-15 with a rotary cutting tool and a small aluminum oxide grinding stone.

Instructions

    • 1

Check to ensure your rifle is unloaded and completely disassemble your rifle. You must separate the barrel extension from the receiver so you have free access to the part.

    • 2

Attach your small aluminum oxide grinding stone to your rotary tool. Put on your safety glasses before you start grinding.

    • 3

Grind away the rounded sides of the feed ramps so that edges of the ramps form a straight line to the side of the barrel extension. Carefully grind down the depth of the ramp so the ramp slightly breaks through the outer side of the barrel extension at the very bottom -- this cut should be very slight. When you're finished, reassemble your rifle.
