How to Site in a MW Malcolm Rifle Scope

A WM Malcolm rifle scope produced by Leatherwood/Hi-Lux Optics is a reproduction of the original WM Malcolm scopes of the 19th century. These scopes are complimentary to reproduction historical weapons such as the Sharps rifle used during the American Civil War. The WM Malcolm rifle scope features fine reticles which are adjustable for elevation and windage. Unlike modern scopes, the adjustment knobs are located on the rear scope mount, and the exact corrections must be estimated.

Instructions

    • 1

Set up your target at a range of 100 yards.

    • 2

Load your rifle, carefully aim at the center of your target and fire. Repeat this procedure until you have fired at least three times.

    • 3

Observe where your shot group is on the target. Estimate the required correction to align your rifle's point-of-impact with your point-of-aim. For example, if your shot group is two inches low and one inch to the right, you'll have to bring your scope's aim two inches up and one inch to the left.

    • 4

Adjust the scope's reticles with the adjustment knobs on the upper right-hand side of the rear mount. Turning the windage knob clockwise will move the reticles right and turning the top knob clockwise will move the reticles up. After you have made your adjustments, fire another shot group and make further adjustments as necessary.
