How to Mount a Side Rail Scope Mount on a Mauser

You can securely mount a scope on your Mauser rifle by first installing a side rail scope mount. A side mount attaches directly to your rifle's receiver and will keep the scope free of the bolt mechanism. The side mount requires that three screw holes be drilled and tapped into the left side of the receiver; have these holes prepared by a professional gunsmith. Before installing the side rail mount on your rifle, make absolutely sure that the weapon is unloaded.

  Place the mount along the left side of your receiver and align the holes in the mount with the screw holes in the receiver.

  Place the screws into the holes and tighten them with a small flat head screwdriver.

  Remove the screws from the tops of the scope rings. Place your scope into position and partially tighten the screws.

  Fine tune the positioning of your scope so that the crosshairs are properly aligned and the scope is positioned to give you sufficient eye relief. Finish tightening the rings.
