How to Replace Glock Internals

Glock handguns are popular worldwide among law enforcement agencies and civilian shooters largely due to their reliability and simplicity. There are three internal parts that can be replaced: the barrel, the recoil spring guide and the recoil spring. Glock recommends that you change your guide spring after 3,000 to 5,000 rounds have been fired. Replacing internal parts entails taking your weapon apart, switching the old part for the new one and reassembling your weapon. Before you disassemble your Glock pistol, check the action to make sure the weapon is unloaded.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the magazine release and remove the magazine from the pistol.

    • 2

Grip the top of your pistol with your non-dominant hand and pull down on the slide locks (located on both sides of the weapon above the trigger guard) with your dominant hand. Push the slide back approximately 1/10 of an inch and immediately push the slide forward and separate it from the grip.

    • 3

Turn over the slide, lift the guide spring assembly off of the small step on the end of the barrel and remove the spring assembly. The recoil guide is straight and made of plastic, and the recoil spring is the metal spring encasing the guide. Separate the spring recoil guide from the recoil spring. Lift the barrel from the slide.
