How to Install M4 Flip up Sights

The M4 rifle is a military variation of the popular AR-15 rifle. The rear peep sight on an AR-15 is installed on the carry handle of the rifle. Many AR-15 and M4 rifles feature detachable carry handles that are attached to a rail mount which is integrated into the body of the upper receiver. The rail mount is typically used to mount optics, but can also be used mount a flip-up peep sight. This option allows you to use the open peep sights without having to replace your scope with your carry handle.

     Remove the magazine and check the action of your rifle to make sure that your rifle is unloaded. If your rifle has a detachable carry handle installed, remove it.

     Loosen (but do not remove) the retention screw on the right hand side of your flip up sight and spread the bracket sufficiently for the rail mount.

     Place the sight on the mount near the end of the rail (closest to your eye). Tighten the retention screw to secure the sight into position.
