How to Disassemble the Ruger Blackhawk

The Ruger Blackhawk is one of the premier high pressure single-action revolvers on the market today. Ruger has produced the Blackhawk line for decades. The gun is available in a variety of calibers, including .357 Magnum, .41 Magnum, .44 Magnum and .45 Long Colt. Unlike double-action revolvers, the Blackhawk's hammer must be manually pulled back by the shooter's thumb before the trigger will function. This type of action has been around for more than 150 years. The design has been modified for safety and better handling, and basic dis-assembly for cleaning is simple.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the gate. The gate is located to the right side (rear view) of the hammer, at the base of the cylinder. Bullets are loaded into the cylinder through the gate. Flip the gate down so that the chambers in the cylinder are exposed.

    • 2

Press the base pin latch. This latch is located in front of the cylinder, underneath the barrel. Press on the left side.

    • 3

Remove the base pin. While holding the latch in, pull the base pin forward toward the muzzle. Withdraw the base pin entirely from the frame of the gun.

    • 4

Remove the cylinder. With the pin removed, you can slide the cylinder out the right side of the gun. All cleaning of your gun can be accomplished with this simple dis-assembly.
