How to Disassemble a Kel-Tec 9mm

Kel-tec pistols are known for a thin, light-weight design. These pistols come in .32 ACP, .380 and 9 mm calibers. The weapons are made in the United States, and are frequently used as backup guns for police officers, and for civilian concealed carry. Kel-tec pistols are designed similarly, so disassembly of models has little variation. The PF-9 model is a 9 mm gun with a single-stack magazine. It was designed several years after the P-11, Kel-tec's first 9 mm pistol.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the slide rearward while pressing up on the slide catch. Inspect the chamber -- ensuring that the gun is unloaded -- after the slide is locked back.

    • 2

Remove the assembly pin while the slide is locked back. Use the rim of a 9 mm bullet to pry the assembly pin loose from the frame. The pin is located on the left side of the frame, above the trigger. Pull the pin out of the frame once it pops loose.

    • 3

Remove the slide by either pulling it rearward or pressing down on the slide catch. Grip the slide as you do this, so that it does not slide forward too fast. Allow the slide to move forward off the end of the frame.

    • 4

Remove the recoil spring, guide rod and barrel, found on the underside of the slide. Pull up on the rear end of the guide rod to free it from the slide. The barrel can also be pulled out. Further disassembly is not recommended by the manufacturer.
