How to Adjust Windage on a Colt Scope

The Colt 4x scope was a fixed power scope designed for the AR 15 rifle. The Colt combat scope mounts directly on the carrying handle common among AR 15 and M 16 rifles. The scope's reticles are adjustable for elevation and for windage. The windage adjustment dial is located on the right side of the scope. The scope is calibrated so that each click of the windage adjustment dial will move to reticle 1/4 inch on the target of a distance of 100 yards.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the amount of adjustment necessary by setting up a target at a range of 100 yards, firing three bullets with well-aimed and controlled shots at your target, and identifying the center of your shot group.

    • 2

Estimate the necessary adjustment. For example, if your shot group is one inch to the right of your aim point, then you need to adjust the windage one inch to the left.

    • 3

Use the dial on the right side of the scope to adjust the windage. Clockwise moves the reticle left and counterclockwise moves it right. For our previous example, given that each click represents 1/4 of an inch, you would turn the dial four clicks clockwise to adjust the windage one inch to the left.
