How to Remove Black on a Glock

You can completely remove the black finish off all the metal parts on your Glock handgun with a sandblasting cabinet using 120-grit aluminum oxide sand. Aluminum oxide sand is capable of completely removing the finish from a Glock without pitting the metal. Removing the black finish before refinishing your weapon can give you a smoother surface and better results. Before you begin to work on your Glock, check to make sure that your handgun is unloaded.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill the sand reservoir of your sandblasting cabinet with 120-grit aluminum oxide sand. The aluminum oxide sand is reusable and can be used for future projects.

    • 2

Field-strip your Glock pistol and apply a decreasing agent to the parts that you wish to strip down. Do not attempt to strip down the grip or magazine; they are both made of black polymer plastic and should not be placed in the sandblaster cabinet.

    • 3

Put the parts in the cabinet and close it. Turn on your sandblaster and use the cabinet's protective gloves to reach inside and use the sandblasting gun to completely remove the black finish from the pieces. Turn off the sandblaster when you're finished.

    • 4

Remove the pieces from the cabinet and use your air compressor to blow off any excess sand or debris from the parts.
