Types of Semi-Automatic Handguns

Semi-automatic pistols are part of the modern generation of firearms. They function by using recoil energy to cycle their action. One cartridge is fired at each trigger pull. They have the advantage of reloading faster than other firearms and have the capacity of storing a larger number of ammunition cartridges.
  1. Browning Hi-Power

    • The history of the Hi-Power dates back to 1923, when the French military commissioned John Browning to design the gun with a very specific set of requirements. According to their specifications the new pistol needed to be compact, have a capacity of at least 10 rounds, an external hammer, a positive safety and have the capability of killing a man at 50 meters. Browning built two entirely new and different prototypes for the project: one was a simple blowback design, while the other was operated with a locked-breech recoil system. The Hi-Power is still one of the most widely used and recognized handguns on the market.

    Colt Gold Cup

    • Colt firearms began over 150 years ago. They have since remained the gold standard in magazine-fed semi-automatic handguns. John Browning is responsible for the famed Colt M1911 used by military servicemen during World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam war. Today's Colt remains committed to quality and excellence. Introduced in the 1950s, the Colt Gold Cup features an adjustable aluminum trigger and rear sight, black wraparound grip, 5-inch match barrel and an eight-round magazine.

Smith &Wesson Military and Police Semiautomatic Pistol

    • Introduced in 1899, the S&W .38 Special gained recognition fast as a reputable and reliable firearm. The "Military and Police" pistol is one of the latest offering from Smith &Wesson company. This pistol first appeared in 2005 intended for police and military sales, but quickly made the rounds in civilian markets. The S&W Military and Police pistol is made of a high-grade polymer with a stainless steel barrel and slide. The rear grip can be changed out with three different grip panels of varied shapes and sizes. It is fully ambidextrous, with slide release levers located on either side of the frame.

    Heckler &Koch P2000SK (Subcompact) Semi-automatic Pistol

    • The Subcompact from Heckler &Koch is a smaller, more concealable design that can be fitted to the individual needs of the shooter. Heckler &Koch has a reputation for producing reliable, safe, durable and accurate firearms. The P2000SK Subcompact follows that tradition with a unique pre-cocked hammer system, the advantages of which include a constant level of trigger pull and short trigger travel from first to last round.
