Aim your mil dot scope at a target with a known height in meters (1 meter is just a little over 3 feet).
Align the horizontal cross hairs of your scope along the bottom of your target and count the number of dots to the top of the target; if the top is between dots, then estimate the percentage of the interval used (for example, 60 percent would be recorded as .6).
Divide the known height by your mil dot count and multiply the answer by 1,000. Your result is the range to target in meters. As an example, if the target height is 3 meters and the mil dot count is 4, then your equation would read 3 ÷ 4 = .75 and .75 x 1,000 = 750. Your target is 750 meters away.
