How to Aim With an ACOG Scope

The Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight, or ACOG, scope is specifically designed with combat in mind. The scope is manufactured by Trijicon, has self-illuminating reticles, and is completely self-contained. The ACOG scope is preset to engage and estimate the range of targets from 100 to 600 meters The ranging marks along the horizontal reticles are calibrated for a target 19 inches wide, the average distance of an adult's shoulders, allowing the shooter to quickly adjust his aiming point for the range of the target.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine your range to target by aiming at an object roughly 19 inches wide and aligning that width with the appropriate descending reticle. The top reticle is for targets up to 100 meters and has a ranging box on each end; if your target fills or exceeds this distance, then your target is within 100 meters. The second reticle is measured for 200 meters, the third for 300 meters, the fourth for 400 meters, the fifth for 500 meters and the sixth, which takes the form of a ranging box, 600 meters.

    • 2

Center your target along the appropriate horizontal reticle for the target's estimated range and the vertical reticle that intersects all the horizontal ones.

    • 3

Maintain your aim and fire your weapon.
