Pistol Design
The Glock 21SF features the safe action system, a series of internal safeties that disengage the pistol's firing mechanism until the shooter pulls the trigger intentionally. The safe action system prevents the pistol from firing accidentally from any force other than the trigger; for example, if the shooter drops the pistol, the weapon's design prevents the firing pin from striking the bullet in the chamber.
Pistol Construction
The lower receiver and the magazines of the Glock 21SF incorporate a tough polymer plastic. This construction makes the pistol lightweight and resistant to corrosion. All the metal surfaces of the Glock 21SF are Tenifer treated. Tenifer is a process, unique to Glock, that gives the surface a protective coating with the approximate hardness of a diamond.
Pistol Dimensions
The Glock 21SF has a length of 7.59 inches and a height of 5.47 inches. The barrel length measures 4.6 inches, and the sight distance, between the front and rear sights, measures 6.77 inches. The Glock 21SF's smaller back strap makes it easier to grip than the Glock 21.
Additional Features
The magazine release on the Glock 21 SF is ambidextrous, meaning the shooter can release it from either side; traditional Glock handguns only feature a magazine release on the left side of the pistol. The 21 SF also features a Picatinny rail system under the barrel. -- a different rail from the traditional mounting slots cut into the low receivers of standard Glock handguns for mounting accessories compatible with rail mounts.
