How to Field Strip a Colt Commander XSE

The Colt Commander XSE pistol is an enhanced version of the classic Colt model 1911. The pistol features ambidextrous safeties, which make it friendly toward left-handed shooters, and serrations cut along the rear and the front of the slide assembly. The Colt Commander has a 4.5-inch barrel and an 8-round magazine capacity. The weapon disassembles in the same manner as a full size 1911 pistol and requires no special tools. Before field stripping your Colt Commander XSE pistol, check to make sure that the pistol is unloaded.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the magazine release button on the left side of the grip and remove the magazine.

    • 2

Pull the slide back about a quarter-inch and press the recoil spring plug, located beneath the barrel, inward so that it clears the bushing bearing. Rotate the bushing bearing clockwise; the recoil plug and spring will come out of the front of the pistol. Separate the plug from the spring.

    • 3

Cock the hammer and move the slide assembly rearward until the slide-stop lug is aligned with the notch in the slide assembly. Push in the end of the slide-stop pin, on the right side of the pistol, and remove the slide-stop. Move the slide assembly forward and separate it from the lower receiver.

    • 4

Turn over the slide assembly and lift out the recoil spring and spring guide. Remove the guide from the spring.

    • 5

Turn the barrel bushing counter-clockwise and extend the barrel and the bushing out of the front of the slide assembly. Remove the bushing from the barrel and lift the barrel out of the slide assembly.
