How to Take a Glock Slide Down to the Silver

If you're preparing to refinish the slide of your Glock, you will want it to be as clean as possible. This can be accomplished by completely removing the original finish with a sandblaster. To accomplish this task you'll need120 grit aluminum oxide sand and a sandblasting cabinet. This variety of sand is fine enough to completely remove the gun's finish without damaging the metal. Before stripping down your Glock, check and make sure that the weapon is unloaded.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare your sandblasting cabinet by filling the sand reservoir with 120 grit aluminum oxide sand. The sand is reusable and can be left in the sandblasting cabinet for other projects, if desired.

    • 2

Disassemble your Glock pistol and use a degreasing agent to completely clean the slide. Completely remove all parts from the slide, leaving the piece as stripped as possible.

    • 3

Place the slide into the sandblasting cabinet, and use the sandblasting gun to completely remove the finish. Sandblasting cabinets have extended protective gloves that allow you to reach into the cabinet and work on your piece while protected from the sand.

    • 4

Remove the slide from the cabinet and use an air compressor to completely remove any excess sand or debris.
