The Disassembly Instructions for a 1911A1 Pistol

The Colt model 1911 handgun was the primary pistol used by the American military for over 70 years. Developed more than 100 years ago, this weapon is still in production and is extremely popular with shooters worldwide. The 1911A1 pistol is chambered to use .45 ACP ammunition, has a magazine capacity of seven rounds, and is a single action pistol; meaning the hammer must be cocked for the weapon to fire. Disassembling your 1911pistol requires no special tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the magazine by pressing the magazine release on the left hand side of the grip.

    • 2

Push the slide back approximately 1/4 inch and simultaneously press the recoil spring plug, located beneath the barrel, into the weapon so it clears the bushing bearing. Turn the bushing bearing clockwise so the recoil plug is free to come out of the front of the weapon. Remove the plug from the spring.

    • 3

Cock the hammer fully back and pull the slide back until the lug of the slide-stop is aligned with the notch cut into the slide assembly. Push in the rounded end of the slide-stop pin, located on the right side of the weapon, and remove the slide-stop. Push the slide assembly forward and remove it from the lower receiver.

    • 4

Turn the slide assembly over and remove the recoil spring and recall spring guide. Separate the guide from the spring.

    • 5

Rotate the barrel bushing counterclockwise, move the barrel and the bushing out of the front of the slide, and remove the bushing from the barrel. Lift the barrel out of the slide assembly.
