How to Put on a WWII Air Force Holster

Air crews during the Second World War were often required to carry pistols during their missions. However, due to the space restrictions of working in the cramped quarters of an aircraft, wearing a hip holster would be cumbersome and impractical. As a result the Army Air Corps adopted shoulder holsters which kept the pistols accessible and out of the way. These holsters were designed with a single strap that went around the shoulder of the crewman. These holsters were also utilized by tank crews who had similar space constraints.

Instructions

    • 1

Fit the holster by slipping your head and left arm through the holster's strap so that the holster is hanging on the left side of your body.

    • 2

Estimate how much to adjust the holster strap, so that the loop at the bottom of the holster is level with your pant belt.

    • 3

Remove your holster, adjust the strap length and put the holster back on. If desired, place your belt through the bottom loop.

    • 4

Unsnap the retention strap at the top of the holster. Place your pistol in the holster and fasten the snap.
