How to Set a CQB Reticle Scope

A CQB -- or "close quarters battle" optic -- is a tactical scope designed to engage targets at close distances. CQB scopes are typically found on military-type weapons, such as the AR-15 or AK-47 rifles; the scopes are sometimes found on conventional sporting guns. There is no standard CQB reticle pattern, but the crosshairs are typically equipped with ranging marks. A CQB scope is quickly set using a laser bore-sighter to zero it in.

Instructions

    • 1

Set up your target at a range of approximately 100 feet.

    • 2

Prepare your laser bore-sighter by attaching the appropriate caliber adapter to the end of the stem. An AR-15 rifle requires the .22-caliber adapter.

    • 3

Insert the stem of the bore-sighter down the end of the barrel as far as it will go.

    • 4

Turn on the laser, and aim your rifle at the target. Observe where the laser is striking the target; that point is the rifle's projected point of impact. Make a note of where the laser beam appears in relation to the scope's crosshairs. Align the intersection of the crosshairs with the laser.

    • 5

Adjust the reticle adjustment dials -- located on the top and the right side of the scope -- so they center on the laser. Rotate the top dial counterclockwise to move the horizontal reticle up. Rotate it clockwise to move the reticle down. Adjust the vertical reticle by rotating the side dial counterclockwise to move it right, or clockwise for left. Set the reticles to center on the laser beam.

    • 6

      Remove the laser bore-sighter.
