Assault Rifles
Common assault rifles used by U.S. Special Forces include the M4A1 and the M4 CQBR carbine. The M4A1 carbine is a Colt-manufactured assault rifle with semi-automatic trigger, a 14.5-inch barrel, a rate of fire of 700-to-950 rounds-per-minute and muzzle velocity of 2,900 feet-per-second. The magazine holds 30 rounds.The rifle can also be fitted with a grenade launcher. The M4 CQBR, sometimes referred to as the MK 18 Mod 0, is a shorter version of the M4A1. The CQBR has a 10.3-inch barrel and is designed specifically for battle in close quarters. Its compact mounting makes it ideal for operations in limited space, hostage rescues and personal protection.
Machine Guns
Machine guns used by U.S. Special Forces include the M134 mini-gun, the M249 SAW and the M2 heavy machine gun. The M134 mini-gun, a six-barrel gatling gun with electrical operation, is designed to be mounted on choppers, vehicles and boats. The gun fires 4,000-to-6,000 rounds-per-minute with an effective range of 1,000 meters.
Sniper Rifles
Popular sniper riles used by U.S. Special Forces include the SR-25, HK 417 and the M40A3. Manufactured by Knights Armaments, the semi-automatic SR-25 was the preferred weapon of U.S. snipers hunting Osama Bin Laden in the mountains of Afghanistan. The rifle has a 7.62-by-51 mm caliber with a 10-to-20 round magazine and a 20-inch barrel.
Handguns
The Glock pistol, Sig Sauer P226 and P228 and M9 Beretta are among the commonly used Special Forces handguns. Glock guns are used by the Army Rangers, Delta Force and Marine Force Recon. The Glock 22 is a semi-automatic handgun with a 15-round detachable magazine and a muzzle velocity of 950 feet-per-second. The M9 Beretta, manufactured as the 92FS Beretta pistol, is a semi-automatic weapon with a 15-round magazine used by U.S. Marine Special Forces and the Army Rangers.
